Weekends whiz by. This one was no exception. It involved bees, blood, biryani, and birthdays.
It also involved a lot of other things. Josh arranged a picnic for us on Saturday. We went to a nice spot in Nebraska overlooking the Missouri River. But we didn't anticipate getting dive-bombed by grasshoppers, and a couple crickets. Then there were daddy-long-legs and big beetles. These were all fine. Then the bees came out. In theory, I have nothing against bees. I think they're lovely creatures who do good things. In real life, I'm scared to death of getting stung. I was very anxious and kept hopping around. We left soon after.
We did also go to see "Eastern Promises." It was such a great, great story. But the violence was hard for me to take. I think it was particularly unsettling because most movies show a brief shot of blood, then change the shot. "Eastern Promises" lingered on all of the bloodiest scenes until I felt my skin crawl. I got nostalgic for Russia and all its idiosyncratic ways.
We went to an Indian restaurant for supper. Josh had lamb biryani. I had tandoori chicken. So good!
We thought we would get a printer since the old one has decided to retire. However, Josh and I both have this tendency of getting silly when we're tired. We were in Best Buy, and we were both tired. And the huge number of options there was overwhelming so we didn't even know where to begin. Instead, we got silly and started printing out sample pages from as many printers as we could, and pressing lots of buttons. Thankfully, one of us had a brief moment of maturity and realized we needed to leave.
Sunday was Grandma Gert's 80-something birthday. A sweet lady she is. But there were a lot of relatives there. And more bees.
And a huge storm last night. I seriously thought we would get a tornado. I'm scared to death of wind too (when it's really strong). I said to Josh last night, "This weekend was full of some of my worst fears." And that's the truth.

sorry about the picnic. at least they weren't killer wasps.
the blood scenes and the naked fighting scenes are the two parts i'm most curious about eastern promises, after hearing the fresh air interview with kronenberg. but it won't come to the beartooth for a couple months yet...
