the dog ate my homework

Today I collected essays from my students. One of my students came up to me before class and said, "I'm sorry, my dog threw up on my paper. Can I get you another copy after class?" Then she showed me big blotches of dog vomit splashed all over the first page of her paper. I said, "OK, I believe you. Yes, I would like a clean copy."

It rained like B.C. all weekend long. I know it's not a popular opinion to have around here, but I loved loved loved it.

We went to see "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" this weekend. What an amazing and fascinating woman she was. Whenever I see historical movies, even if they're stylized or somewhat fictional, I always get interested in the characters as real people--their emotions, aspirations, flaws, points of weakness. Then I go and do some research on them. In the past few months I've researched Bonnie & Clyde, Sylvia Plath, the dictator of Uganda, Marie Antoinette. This time was no different. I was a little surprised that Mary Queen of Scots was portrayed so negatively though. I read a little about her too. Did you know that when she was beheaded, it took 3 swings of the axe before her head was completely chopped off? The first blow hit too high on her neck, the second one too low, and the third one couldn't get through all the gristle in her neck.

I'm sorry. That's really disgusting.

Hey, we just watched Bonnie and Clyde, too! Were you surprised at the ending? I was, even though I should have been expecting it.

Oh, and it's raining here, too. For some reason I don't like it as much as I did before.
