bones

It's been almost 8 weeks since my leg got injured from, what I believe was, a stress fracture. I've been taking it easy since then, but I've been pretty antsy about it. All along, I've still been having weird twinges inside my leg. I thought I'd start to ease back into doing stuff so I went for a walk earlier this week. I walked pretty quickly, but I didn't think that would be too hard.

Now my leg is hurting even worse than before, and I'm getting really discouraged. I've read that stress fractures are really touchy and fickle things, and their healing time can vary a lot. I would go back to the doctor, but why? This is such a great country for medical care [oozing sarcasm], and even though we work our butts off we're not in a GEO and don't get benefits, so we can't really afford any medical services anyway. I could go for a free doctor visit, and I get one free X-ray per semester (but that doesn't include a radiologist reading the X-ray), but I already used up that free X-ray with my last visit. And clearly, getting an MRI or bone scan (which is what the doctor would probably want to do) would destroy our budget for the next year.

So whatever. I keep worrying that one day I'll look down and my bone will have broken completely and be sticking out of my skin. But more seriously, I can't stand not being able to do anything. Is this what Restless Leg Syndrome is like? I think RLS is as crazy as a country that won't give medical care to all its citizens. I wonder if there is such a thing as Restless Brain Syndrome? I probably have it.

sure, move to canada! but that doesn't mean you won't face crowded wait rooms and crazy line ups until you get anything done about your problem.
i'm not speaking from personal experience, but there are some nasty stories that come out.

but at least you'll be able to afford to the the attention you need! (Sorry, this is turning to a debate on your blog, which you didn't necessarily solicit.)

Yeah, plus the problems are greatly exaggerated. I have not experienced them and nobody I know has . . . nobody in Canada dies due to a decision made by an insurance company, so . . . this notion is just based on blind faith in the free market, I think (which is based on the mistaken belief there is or ever was a "free" market, etc. . . .
