yay!

I just found out that one of my poems is accepted for publication in an online journal. I even get some money out of the deal (not enough to make me rich, but so?). I will let you all know when the issue is up.

Cricket update: I was taking a nice shower this morning and afterwards I was drying off. I was just about to slide from the shower into my (black) slippers when I saw a slight movement in one of them. Yep, a cricket making itself at home. I beat it until it was flat, but I haven't been able to stomach putting on my slippers since then. The thought of its disgusting spindly little legs crawling around in my nice soft slippers makes me almost throw up. My repulsion of crickets might be a little neurotic?

I think you are neurotic. Once a big beetle about the size of loonie was in the sleeve of my jean jacket when I put it on at the end of the day to go home. That was creepy. But those little black guys, the crickets, just tell us when we are alone, don't they? They work in a lot of movies and radio plays. They don't even spit or bite. Centipedes are crazy.

I love crickets but I won't say no more about it.

What journal? Congratulations!

Congrats! So exciting! Wow, you're a Big Poetess now . . . can I have your autograph? :)

I'm sad for the crickets. They're really not such bad little creatures--just trying to make their own way in the world, and unfortunately their paths occasionally take them to your sink or slipper. Perhaps you could set them free rather than crushing them into oblivion? (Yes, I think you're neurotic!)

Thanks guys.

As for being neurotic, perhaps I am. But we all have our quirks. I just spent half the morning chasing a big fat cricket around our bedroom. I had the vacuum cleaner going, moved the dresser, dug through the closet but I missed him. Now I'm not sure I can sleep there tonight.

Allison, what about those cockroaches in your apartment in Chicago? Did you set them free outside? :)

oh, I forgot to mention. I think what is so creepy about crickets is the way they jump in unexpected directions. That's why I hate grasshoppers too. And to some extent, cats. But spiders are fine. Even beetles are gross, but not creepy. I'd even be fine with a snake. But not a jumping snake.

Touche. I had entirely forgotten about the cockroaches in Chicago. It's all coming back to me . . . coming home & turning on the light, the scattering of the cockroaches, the crazy cockroach dance Amy & I created.
So maybe you're not entirely neurotic. Just a little bit. :)
