crickets & boats

So I get up about 6:00 this morning to go for a run, and I'm stumbling around half-asleep. I'm in the bathroom, leaning over the sink to put in my contacts. In the semi-dark, out of the corner of my eye, I see something jumping in the sink. Guess what it was? Here it is:

A huge cricket ! Talk about a 6 AM heart attack! And I'm a little bit embarrassed to say that I went and woke up Josh and kind of hinted that I'd like him to kill it. Which he did, bless his dear soul. You see, I only kill crickets with fly swatters, and the angles of a sink do not lend themselves to effective fly swatter swats. And why is a cricket in the sink? Can they climb up drains?

We went to Okoboji for the weekend. It was fun. I felt very pale next to all the tanned people in their boats and fancy houses. But it was still a good time. Josh did some water-skiing and I was quite impressed! He got up every time and circled around and around the lake like a pro.
We went to an outdoor concert in Arnolds Park:

Mossy rocks:

And nice sunsets:

Happy August. The summer is flying!

I like crickets. One lived behing my tv for a month last summer and he only caused trouble during the quiet parts of movies. What is with all this killing?

Well, they just give me the creeps. They would be fine if they just stayed in one spot, like spiders usually do. But no, crickets hop randomly all over the place. They show up in weird spots like the bathroom sink, or your breakfast bowl. It's just creepy.

Again, I am all for the senseless massacre of crickets. They are totally, totally creepy!

Great pictures! I love the mossy rocks!

Forget the crickets - the scary part of this posting is that you were up at 6 am on a summer day. Cripes.

Did you try the vacuum? I remember many a spider being sucked into the black hole of the vacuum hose!
