do you have a case of the Fridays?

I think I do. I walked home after my class today because it was so sunny and mild out (relatively speaking). There were puddles on the sidewalks, some lakes. I got nostalgic for Fridays in Chicago. Almost every single Friday I would hop on the train and head downtown after my last class was finished--usually early afternoon. I would sit and read and write in a coffeeshop somewhere downtown. Then I would grab a copy of The Reader, see what movies were playing that week, and decide which matinee I wanted to see. Then I would find my way to the theatre, which was usually a different theatre every week. I saw a lot of the city that way. And a lot of movies.

But Vermillion just isn't the same as Chicago.

I started this blog on Friday, but then Josh came home so stopped writing. Now it's Sunday morning and I'm back. We spent most of yesterday unpacking boxes with dishes and silverware and other stuff, as well as a bit of cleaning. The chaos seems to diminish in one room, but then it reproduces itself in another room. I don't know if the end is in sight.... I hope so.

In between all the boxes and cleaning, we did manage to relax for a bit. For example, we lounge on counters.

Here's a hilarious story. On Friday morning Josh e-mailed me from his school with a love letter that one of the teachers found in the hallway. Bless those middle schoolers--the letter was priceless! It was so good that I copied it onto a transparency and took it to show my creative writing class that afternoon. After all, we were discussing imagery, metaphors, similes, etc. It was a good demonstration of how bad metaphors and imagery can make your writing sound ricidulous. We all had a good laugh. It's all about collaboration. Here's the letter:

Dearest lover,Your lips are like roses. Your face is softer than a baby's bottom. Yourhair shivers in the sunlight. Every time you laugh it makes me smile.Your eyes are like two pools of crystal. I love how sit on your roof inthe moon light. Your sexy bod turns me on. Baby!I love you ________! Smell me.

POLL: in this picture, does Josh look like he's saying:

a) "I'm really friendly; come on over and let's hug!"
b) "How dare you take my picture? I'm going to flatten you with my big muscles!"
c) "The world disgusts me."

Please submit your answer.

I think I may have a chronic case of the Fridays. And re: photo poll, I vote for (f) Mild bemusement with a top note of nonplussage.
