maybe too saturated a color? you could try one that matches your earrings on the pictures. now THAT would be dandy.

i like your photo. you guys look quite content. that's good.

is "saturated" a computer programmer's word? i don't know--i've kind of been drawn to bright colours lately. i'm not too keen on a blah gray background.

yes, it is good. did you buy a gun yet?

I told my students about you and your future phd in poetry today. They were a little puzzled. (what kind of job can you get with that?) sigh. It's time for an "importance of humanities" speach/demonstration, I think. Any ideas?

ah, but your students make a good point, regardless of the importance of the pursuit of higher education.

what kind of a job can you get with that?

i think someone made a comment about watching "dead poet's society." although there are things i don't like about that movie, there is one part that i always think about every time i stop to question the validity of what i'm doing. i forget how the line goes exactly, but robin williams' character says something like, "being a doctor or scientist--these are noble pursuits. they save lives. but poetry and literature--this is what peoople LIVE for."

that's really how i see it. it's not just a job--it's a way of life/living/seeing the world.

(oh, and i refuse to commodify poetry. what kind of job can i get with it? that's not a question i connect with poetry. but what kind of job WILL i get? hopefully a professor somewhere. there could be a lot worse things. in fact, it seems like quite a nice benefit in addition to the poetry.)

ah, that's a great line. i can almost see robin williams saying it, too.

i guess i still don't understand poetry, but i can understand what you're saying if i substitute 'music' for 'poetry'. cause i could certainly die of boredom without music.

for example. yesterday i was having a so-so day at work. then i listen to 'blue' by joni mitchell, and ta-dah! i magically feel INFINITELY better. s'matter of fact i'm still feeling the remnants of that moment.

maybe we spend to much time trying to "understand" poetry rather than just enjoying the images and sounds.
