End of semester craziness (post involves heavy sweating)

It's the last week of class! I teach my last 2 English classes tomorrow, and then next week is exams. Then freedom!

On Tuesday night I did not go to bed--I pulled an all-nighter grading the final Research papers. (I thought my all-nighter days were over once I graduated from college, but I guess not) Needless to say, on Wednesday I was exhausted. But little sister Margaret was flying back home after being in Egypt for the semester. So I forced my eyes open, and went along to the airport to get her. I got home about 1:30 in the morning, and I noticed my furnace was on. Kind of strange since it's basically spring here. I tried turning the thermostat down, but the dial kept going in circles--around and around and around.... I didn't know what to do, so I had some tea then got ready for bed. By the time I was crawling into bed, I was sweating very heavily! So I got up and opened up all the windows in my house. I got back into bed, but I couldn't sleep. The furnace kept blowing hot air out like a dragon, and it was getting increasingly hotter in my house. Finally, after a restless few hours, I got up at 7:00 because the sweat was pouring off of me like a river. No, like 50 rivers. I checked the thermostat and saw that it was 92 degrees in my house!!!! (Canadian friends, that's about 34 degress celsius) I finally went down into the basement and fooled around with knobs and wires for a few minutes (no, I did NOT know what I was doing--I was just sweating and wanting it to stop). Miraculously, the flames suddenly disappeared. It took 6 hours before the house cooled off to a normal temperature.

So I'm still exhausted today. I've gotten 5 hours of sleep since Monday night. But I'm not upset, because the semester is almost over! And I'm not sweating anymore. I wonder if that's what hot flashes are like.... hmmm...

Sarah,

Your sweating story cracked me up. I'm excited to get to know you more by reading your blog. Lance will chuckle when I tell him I'm reading yet another blog. Even though I only know you a little bit from school - I was excited to hear from Melanie awhile back that you are a prof - what do your students call you? I would love to take a course from you. How do you like it?
